«Fan into Flame the Gift of God: Sent to the Public Squares of the World»

August 5, 2026. The morning prayer marked the opening of the Sixth Expanded General Council. It focused on the mission of healing the wounds of today’s world from a Franciscan-Amigonian perspective, especially within the everyday realities—the «public squares»—where life unfolds. The Holy Spirit has not given the Sisters a spirit of timidity, but one of strength. Therefore, the participants were invited to recognize the gifts of the Spirit and to continue asking the Lord to fan them into flame. They were also encouraged to remain open to the action of the Holy Spirit, who accompanies and sustains the Congregation throughout its process of discernment.

In her welcome address, Sister Blanca Nidia Bedoya Salazar, Superior General, reminded the Sisters that they had not come to represent themselves, but the entire Congregation. Drawing an analogy with the people of Israel, she emphasized that they are a small portion of God’s beloved people, whom He has loved with an everlasting love.

Inspired by the Proverbs of Macua, the Sisters continued their process of community building by sharing experiences of how they have been like the sun, shining brightly for others, and like the moon, humbly reflecting light alongside one another. With deep conviction, they shared the hopeful and transformative attitudes they are called to live out in their communities and interpersonal relationships.

After recognizing the gifts they have received from the Holy Spirit and reflecting on the challenges presented by today’s «public squares,» the Sisters were invited to ask themselves: «Lord, where do You want to lead us?» This question calls them to a profound transformation of life, both personally and as a Congregation. Inspired by Sister Blanca Cecilia Cely, ODN, they were encouraged to continue asking questions and allowing themselves to be challenged, recognizing that such an attitude is essential for moving forward on their journey of life in all its expressions and challenges.

At the close of the day, the question, «Lord, where do You want to lead us?» continued to echo in the hearts of the Sisters.
